Secrets of the Yucatán – Beaches

secrets-of-the-yucatan-beaches

The Yucatán Peninsula is known for its beautiful white sandy beaches and turquoise waters containing a rich underwater world. Most beaches on the Riviera Maya are very crowded though and don’t always give you that paradise feeling. Here are some amazing spots not yet discovered by mass tourism.

Soliman Bay
Punta Soliman is said to be one of the most beautiful bays in the Riviera Maya. A peaceful tropical paradise, perfect for sunbathing, swimming, long beach walks and lounging in a hammock. The protected area also makes a good location for snorkeling and kayaking. And Tulum is just around the corner. Eat fish taco’s on the beach at palapa “Chamico” and if you want something more fancy go to Sahara Restaurant.

Xpu-Ha

The fascinating beach of Xpu-Ha is only half meter deep and there are almost no waves, which makes it ideal for kids and water sports like kayaking and supping. With its perfect white sand, crystalized water and palm trees it looks like a postcard. In the northern part the creek connects to the Manatee cenote inside the mangroves, where you can observe colorful fish and different types of birds. You can only access the beach by dirt roads and therefore you’ll find less tourists. No wonder the locals love to hangout here. But the real secret of Xpu-Ha is the arrival and the birth of Turtles from May to September.

Other great beaches can be found at Isla Mujeres and Isla Holbox, which we covered in Secrets of Yucatán – Islands.
